Incoders successfully tested at -100 degrees Celsius

December 7, 2012
Incoders tested at -100 degrees celcius

We’ve discovered that our IncOder product range is even more robust and reliable than we thought.

A Zettlex customer has successfully tested a standard IncOder in extremely low ambient temperatures down to -114 deg C. Standard IncOders are normally rated by Zettlex to operate at temperatures down to -40 deg C with a cold temperature option to -55 deg C.  The unit under test was a -40 deg C option.

Zettlex IncOders are non-contact, absolute angle measuring devices that use a unique inductive technique and may be considered as inductive encoders. The sensors are suitable for harsh environments such as industrial, military and aerospace equipment – where electrical contacts, optical or capacitive devices are likely to prove unreliable or pancake resolvers are too expensive.

“We’re not surprised to hear from one of our customers that an IncOder is operating successfully below the rated ambient temperature of minus 40 degrees Centigrade, becuase we know it is such a robust technology. However, we were a little shocked to discover that the IncOder withstood such an extremely cold environment down to minus 114 degrees Celsius. In the past, we’ve provided IncOders that can operate down to minus 65 degrees Centigrade, but this recent discovery has exceeded everyone’s expectations and again proves just how robust and reliable the IncOder actually is.”

The IncOder range is available at www.zettlex.com as well as through Zettlex’s international resellers.
