Against competition from much larger companies, Zettlex has secured a major contract for motion control systems.
Pall Mall, London. March 31st 2010. Following 12 weeks of rigorous qualification & desert/user trials, Zettlex received a £1.5M contract to supply precision motion control systems for battlefield electro-optic equipment.
Darran Kreit, Zettlex’s Technical Manager comments “This was an extremely challenging project. The performance specification was tough but the timescales were even tougher. I am pleased to report that Zettlex hit every milestone on schedule or ahead of schedule without once requiring any corrective actions.”
The Zettlex solution had competition from 2 traditional systems which featured resolvers or optical encoders as the main position/speed sensing technologies. The resolver solution weighed three times as much as the Zettlex solution and cost more than twice as much.
The optical system suffered reliability problems due to ingress of fine sand and had to be withdrawn from the trials after some of the glass disks fractured during shock & vibration testing.
