Westwind Air Bearing Spindles insist on the use of suitable Dynamic Runout (DRO) pins to measure DRO accurately. Failure to use the correct DRO pin can result in errors in measurement or even spindle damage.
Westwind offers 5 types of pins for DRO measurement:
1. Standard 1/8”, 38.1 mm long pin – Westwind part number 44838.
This pin is used to test DRO on all Westwind spindles that require an 1/8” (3.175 mm) pin, <180k rpm, i.e. except: D1686, D1787, D1822, D1823, D1790, D1922 & D1923.
2. Standard 1/8”, 30 mm long pin – Westwind part number 44398.
This pin is used to test DRO on D1686, D1787, D1822, D1823, D1790, D1922 & D1923 spindles (180k rpm and above), that require an 1/8” (3.175 mm) pin.
3. Standard 2mm, 30 mm long pin – Westwind part number 51510.
This pin is used to test DRO on D1790 & D1812 spindles (200k rpm and above).
4. Standard 4mm, 38.1 mm long pin – Westwind part number 56165.
This pin is used to test DRO on M321 & D1858 spindles.
5. Standard 6mm, 38.1 mm long pin – Westwind part number 55759.
This pin is used to test DRO on M321 & D1858 spindles.
