What is BiSS-C?

BiSS (Bidirectional interface for Serial/Synchronous) is a communications protocol used by industrial automation devices including angle encoders. It enables digital, serial, secure and economic communications between controllers, sensors and actuators. The BiSS protocol is designed in B mode and C mode (continuous mode). It is used in an increasing number of applications which require high transfer rates, safety, flexibility and ease of use. The BiSS interface has roots in SSI and a simplified INTERBUS. Importantly, it is an open system and competes with proprietary standards of Hiperface and EnDat which restrict a user’s choice to a particular brand of equipment. IncOders are available with uni-directional BiSS-C communications.
