In automotive electro-static paint spraying system applications, particularly made for car body painting, robotic mounted rotary atomizers are required to work in very tough dynamic performance conditions. Celera Motion’s Westwind Coating Atomizer Series air bearing spindles are ultra-robust, compact, and reliable for efficient material transfer and coating, optimizing air turbine performance for various automotive coating applications.

The Challenge

In automotive electro-static paint spraying system applications, particularly made for car body painting, robotic mounted rotary atomizers are required to work in very tough dynamic performance conditions. The rotary atomizers must carry large diameter bell cups, run at high rotational speeds, and be extremely robust to withstand high gyroscopic forces generated by rapid robotic arm movements. Low turbine air consumption is another key requirement to reduce operating cost in this demanding environment.

The Solution

The Coating Atomizer Series Spindles are ultra-robust, compact, and reliable for efficient material transfer and coating, optimizing air turbine performance for various automotive coating applications.

The D1724 range of air bearing spindles meet the specification needs in cutting-edge electro-static automotive painting applications, delivering high speed for ultra-fine paint atomization. The enhanced turbine drive design enables increased paint flowrate, improved shaft dynamic balance, and the use of larger diameter bell cups. The advanced turbine blade shape minimizes air consumption. Rapid turbine acceleration and braking ensure minimum down-time during cleaning or color change cycles.

High capacity radial and axial air bearings resist the gyroscopic forces created by the multi-axis motion of the robotic arm. The lightweight, aluminum alloy body and small footprint are ideal for easy mounting inside the OEM’s robotic mounted spray pod. Both internal and external shaft taper mountings are available for specific bell cup designs.
A shaft speed monitoring sensor can be accommodated in the rear cover assembly for accurate speed control measurement. Grounding brushes can also be fitted between the shaft and the rear cover to ensure all components remain at the same electrical potential.

The Benefit

Celera Motion’s Westwind Coating Atomizer Series provide lower air consumptions, superior dynamic performance, and high reliability to minimize downtime cost. The rugged air bearing design allows rapid robotic movements, in all directions, for maximum productivity on the production line while providing long service life and minimal maintenance.
